Accredited Business Accountant®/Accredited Business Advisor® (ABA)
Earn Your ABA Through Examination
Required for all: 3 Years experience
ACAT seeks to ensure that all accredited individuals possess both the theoretical knowledge and the practical knowledge necessary to be successful practitioners. For that reason, candidates for accreditation must satisfy an experience requirement before becoming fully credentialed: three years of related work experience, up to two of which may be satisfied through college credit.
Related work experience includes verifiable experience in accounting, taxation, financial services, or other field requiring a practical and theoretical knowledge of the subject matter covered on the ACAT Comprehensive Examination.

ACAT Examination
The seven-hour Comprehensive Examination for Accreditation in Accounting consists of 200 multiple-choice questions which test your proficiency in financial accounting, reporting, statement preparation, taxation, business consulting services, business law, and ethics. Test sites are open to take the examination for three weeks in May and early June and three weeks in late November and December. Required score is 70% on each section of the exam taken. Application fee for practitioners: $200 for total exam or any portion of the exam. Application fee for employees or students: $150 for total exam or any portion of the exam.
The retake fee for the total exam is $110; either section of the exam is $60.
Those who pass the exam but who have not met the experience requirement may market themselves as having passed the ACAT Comprehensive Examination for Accreditation in Accountancy, but are not entitled to use the ABA designation.
