ACAT OFFERS TWO EXAMS:

ABA and ATP

Test sites are open to take the examination for three weeks in May and early June and three weeks in late November and December. The exams are scored separately, since the examinee must attain a 70% score on both Practice 1 and Practice 2 (see descriptions below) to achieve the ABA credential AND a score of 70% on the ATP exam of 58 Taxation and Ethics questions, taken from the ABA exam. It is possible to pass Practice 2 without passing the ATP exam and vice versa.

Application fee

Practitioners: $200 for the ABA exam or any portion of the exam; $110 for retake of total exam or $60 for a retake of either section of the exam. $150 for the ATP exam; $110 for retaking the entire exam and $60 for retaking a section of the exam. Package rate for both exams simultaneously is $275.

Students: $150 for the ABA exam or any portion of the exam. Students at Capstone colleges: $50. $150 for the ATP exam. Package rate for both exams is $225.

ABA EXAM DETAILS

The seven-hour Comprehensive Examination for Accreditation in Accounting (ABA) consists of 200 multiple-choice questions which test your proficiency in financial accounting, reporting, statement preparation, taxation, business consulting services, business law, and ethics.

Required score is 70% on each section of the exam taken. In states where the exam is used as a licensing vehicle, that state may require a higher score to award the license.

ATP EXAM DETAILS

The three-hour examination consists of 58 multiple-choice questions which test proficiency in taxation and ethics. Required score is 70% on the ATP exam. Topics covered in the taxation and ethics sections are listed on the ABA exam blueprint.
