Earn Your International Accredited Business Accountant Certificate Through Examination

Required for all: 3 Years experience

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE IABA Certificate IS NOT VALID WITHIN THE UNITED STATES AND United States territories. IF YOU PRACTICE WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, YOU MUST OBTAIN THE ABA CREDENTIAL TO BE RECOGNIZED AS ACCREDITED IN ACCOUNTING.

ACAT seeks to ensure that all accredited individuals possess both the theoretical knowledge and the practical knowledge necessary to be successful practitioners. For that reason, candidates for accreditation must satisfy an experience requirement before becoming fully credentialed: three years of related work experience, up to two of which may be satisfied through college credit.

Related work experience includes verifiable experience in accounting, financial services, or other field requiring a practical and theoretical knowledge of the subject matter covered on the ACAT Comprehensive Examination for the International Accredited Business Accountant.

Those who pass the exam but who have not met the experience requirement may market themselves as having passed the ACAT Comprehensive Examination for International Accredited Business Accountant, but are not entitled to use the IABA designation.

IABA Examination

The six-hour Comprehensive Examination for Accreditation in Accounting consists of 150 multiple-choice questions which test proficiency in financial accounting, reporting, statement preparation, taxation, business consulting services, business law, and ethics. The questions are divided into two sections: Practice I and Practice II. The examination is given on the first Friday of June and the second Friday of December. A score of 70% on each section of the exam is required. Application fee: $200 for total exam or any portion of the exam.
